This lucky sighting by Kobus Saymaan and his friend Johnny Foonk in Kgalagadi Transfronteir Park is proof that Cheetah are capable of taking down and killing an adult ostrich.

Whilst out on a drive they came across a cheetah and her cubs and quickly identified that they were on the hunt in the Auob riverbed. When looking through the binos a little further down the river, they noticed a group of ostriches heading straight in the direction of the hunting cheetahs.

The cheetahs planned the ambush well, sidelining one of the ostriches and then starting the attack. The female cheetah chased the ostrich up the hill and managed to bring it down. It was all over in a matter of minutes!

Luckily for Kobus he was able to capture some of the action while his partner Johnny unfortunately missed out due to a flat camera battery, what cruel timing!

Wondering if Kobus and Johnny were the first to see something like this? Seem as though Cheetah taking on Ostrich is something that is relatively well documented. Probably some of the best footage is shot in Kenya, published by BBC Earth and narrated by David Attenborough. In this footage, the incredible footage shows a female Ostrich being taken down by three Cheetah.
